If you didn't already know this, you can experience true Southern Hospitality and grace in this impressive Victorian- Italianate residence built circa 1868 and the charming adjacent 1881 Guest House with it’s fifty-five foot long gallery, which overlooks the sparkling swimming pool, the river valley below and the Louisiana delta across the Mississippi river. 

The mansion was built by John Alexander Klein, on his Cedar Grove Estate for his son Madison Conrad Klein. The area which encompasses five of Vicksburg’s most important houses, including Annabelle is know as the Historic Garden District.


And Carolyn still serves her famous Lacy Cookies that you can find in my cookbook along with her recipes for Spinach and Feta Quiche, Fig Cake, and Pecan Pizza. 



This room looks perfect for having an afternoon cup of coffee or tea.

Gordon Watkins, a career veteran of the Hospitality Industry purchased The Inn at 410 B&B in September, 2003 in fulfillment of his lifelong dream of owning his own inn. Gordon graduated from Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration and has worked in operations and development for major hotel companies including The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Hyatt Corporation, Tishman Hotel Corp. and InterContinental Hotels Group. Gordon has worked in the hospitality industry for over 40 years starting in the business as a cook and baker while in his teens. Gordon is an avid hiker and skiier who loves to advise his guests on what to see and where to dine and shop in order to experience the best of Flagstaff and northern Arizona. 

Together with his friendly Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Ginger and Sissy, Gordon and his staff welcome our guests to The Inn at 410!

Update on Mango Inn

The Mango Inn in Florida has new innkeepers, new recipes and a great Facebook page. They deserve an update!

Nestled on a secluded corner lot, this historic home was built in 1915 and said to be one of the oldest homes in Lake Worth, FL. Casual elegance, privacy and cascading water fountains make you feel as if you are in a private oasis. A full gourmet breakfast awaits you on the veranda overlooking the pool each morning. The inn is a short 10 minute walk to the beach and downtown Lake Worth where visitors will find several wonderful restaurants, shops, antique stores and galleries.  Innkeepers Judi, Deb and Bill hope that a stay at the Mango Inn Bed and Breakfast in Lake Worth, FL will provide you with a peaceful respite from everyday life.

"There’s a doctor and two nurses calling the shots at The Mango Inn, but don’t let that mislead you. Update on Prospect Hill B&B Inn

Located in “far” northeast Tennessee, Prospect Hill B&B in Mountain City is north of Boone, NC, between the Stone Mountain and Iron Mountain ridges–a dozen miles from both North Carolina and Virginia, with a front porch view of both states. Mountain City, TN, is unique in its small town feel—no T-shirt shops or cheesy tourist attractions. The buildings downtown are 1950s retro (seems like Elvis might drive up in a few). Country roads leading to town are two-lanes and scenery lined. There are fields, farms, lakes and lots forests including Doe Mountain. Over half the county is part of Cherokee National Forest.

For a Romantic getaway ~ Two rustic cabins on the mossy lined creek in the woods; all glass front cabins allow you to lie in bed and look at the woods and water. In the words of innkeeper Val Owens: "This is a very different "old Inn" because it is actually a collection of many old homes. By tearing down small old homes and recycling lumber, doors, cabinets, and stained glass windows we were able to create this new "old Inn". On a cold day in January, '93 we began by tearing down the old house, pulling nails, and slowly building the Inn you see from the collected materials both old and new. Many friends and family helped along the way and by June, '94 we moved into our new Inn. One year later on July 1, 1995 we officially opened as the Rosewood Inn Bed & Breakfast. Actually, it is the best of both worlds. Modern appliances, new electrical wiring, energy efficient heat and air conditioning are just a few of the advantages of a newly built Inn. However, the recycled materials add a quality to our Inn that was traditionally found in days gone by. Solid oak cabinets and doors, stained glass window, and seasoned lumber contribute quality and atmosphere to our Inn. Every Inn has a story, but ours has several. We have always loved having people in our home so opening a Bed & Breakfast seemed to be a very reasonable thing to do. Friends sometimes ask us about letting "strangers" into our Inn. We simply tell them that the people who choose to stay in Bed & Breakfasts are the kind of people that could be your best friends, if you had the opportunity to meet them...and we are fortunate enough to have that pleasure. We consider ourselves caretakers of this Inn, which was meant to be shared and we are truly blessed with the opportunity to do so. The design has elements from Victorian homes in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, and Louisiana. The best aspects of each were combined to create a comfortable home and a graceful retreat. Built by Colonel R. H. Hankinson in 1884, Winsome Manor is a full three stories, set atop a nine-foot fieldstone basement. This home has received much tender loving over the years, renovations made and additions having been added, making comfort the main theme throughout the home. Nestled in a picturesque setting, our 1884 Victorian home has two Main Floor Fireplaces. This Victorian Styled home boasts an excellent southerly view overlooking Lake Elsie. In the summertime, swim or lounge on our private beach, take a hike around the lake, or check out our newly laid-out orchard. The Master Guest Bedroom, also with a Fireplace, has Queen Size Bed and large private bath. We have our own private beach and are only minutes away from Dakota Magic Casino. Also nearby is a 150-mile snowmobile trail.

 
About Hankinson: 

It celebrated its Quasquicentennial---125th Anniversar---in 2011. Hankinson is a vital, civic-minded city located 60 miles south of Fargo near the junction of Interstate 29 and Highway 11. The public school system, which employs 50 highly qualified personnel, is the pride of the Hankinson community.  Classes in grades K-12 range in size from 3-40 students.  A $3.4 million addition/remodel was recently completed to provide our students with excellent educational facilities. We love to visit and meet new people. However, if you long for seclusion we will deliver breakfast to your door in a basket. Our area is rich in American Indian culture and cowboy rodeo lifestyles. 

Our wide-open spaces, beautiful sunsets, and vast beauty of the Missouri River make this area a reflection of the Old West. We are located near the heart of North Dakota's Lewis & Clark Trail. The Lewis & Clark Expedition stands as a United States odyssey. The great adventure speaks to Americans of all kinds, perhaps because among the Corps of Discovery there was a woman, a black man, and those of French, Irish and English descent. The remarkable journey required discipline and sacrifice, strength and ingenuity. The expedition traveled the pulsing arteries of the continent, the Missouri and Columbia rivers, and it crossed the nation's backbone, the Rocky Mountains. The epic was recorded in ordinary language, made extraordinary by the experience of its authors. Update on 1823 Historic Rose Hill Inn

Here's another update, this time on the 1823 Historic Rose Hill Inn! I mentioned before that there are new innkeepers but thought you might like to "meet" them and read an interesting fact.

Meet Alder & Gill Blackburn:

Alder and Gill Blackburn are the new innkeepers at Rose Hill Inn but not new to inns. They have traveled extensively and stayed at many fine bed and breakfast establishments all over the USA and Europe and hope to bring the best of these experiences home to Rose Hill Inn.

You will soon determine that they were both born, grew up, educated and married in England. Alder and Gill (pronounced "Jill") emigrated to the United States in the mid-1960s and have lived in a number of locations but mostly in Columbus, Ohio.  

Prior to moving to Versailles they made their home in South Carolina. "We have fallen completely in love with Kentucky," Gill said, "with its rich history and beautiful countryside."

And Alder wrote a book!!

Happy Saturday to All!

All the inns in my cookbook are very unique with fun things to do and fun surroundings. The innkeepers were so gracious to share their favorite recipes and their personal stories of their lives of how they became innkeepers and also some great history about the inns. 

My favorite part of the day is morning, sitting outside when it is cool in the morning or in my favorite spot to have my quiet time and enjoy my favorite coffee. If you are a coffee drinker, you understand how enjoyable that time can be. Because I enjoy coffee so much, I became a coffee distributor and found a coffee that is actually good for you and non-acidic. Contact me if you'd like to learn more or leave me a comment.
