The Hanover House in Martha’s Vineyard

The Hanover House in Vineyard Haven

(Martha's Vineyard)

The Island of Martha's Vineyard is a place like no other. Where dramatic cliffs meet endless sandy beaches. Where hundred year old stone fences trace rolling green meadows out to sea. It's a mystical, romantic place. From which whaling vessels were launched. And to which sea captains came home. Today, it's a place that remains unhurried and unspoiled. That's why it holds a special place in the hearts of so many. Feel the magic of Martha's Vineyard begin as you leave the mainland and board the ferry at Woods Hole. After a short, relaxing voyage, you'll arrive in the harbor of Vineyard Haven, a true islander's town: quaint and un-crowded, with many unique shops and restaurants. The Hanover House provides our guests with the charm of a country home and the convenience of a village inn. The home was originally built in the late 19th century, and was converted to an Inn over 20 years ago. Combined with its sister property next door, the Clark House, provides 20 rooms for gatherings of family, friends, and associates. The grounds provide a secluded feeling, even though the Inn is just a short walk from town. Before the day begins, enjoy our expanded continental breakfast sitting on our porch, at one of the outdoor garden tables, or one of the decks shared by the guests. When you are done, take advantage of the Hanover House's location to enjoy all the Island's activities in Vineyard Haven, and the other Island Towns: tours, biking paths, shopping, theater, restaurants, library, historical sites and museums, sailing, windsurfing, swimming, fishing, tennis, golf and horseback riding facilities. Set on a half-acre of beautifully landscaped lawn within walking distance of the ferry, this charming inn offers spotlessly clean rooms decorated in casual country style with a combination of antiques and reproduction furniture. Each room has an individual decorative flair, some with floral wallpaper and quilts, others tastefully sponge-painted and filled with whimsical, creative furnishings. All have a queen or two double beds, and some have private entrances that open onto one of two spacious sundecks. Three suites in the separate carriage house are roomy, with private decks or patios. Two have kitchenettes. The owners attend to every detail, including touches like Hemingway paperbacks on night tables. Homemade breads and muffins are served each morning on a lovely sun porch with fresh flowers from the ever-blooming gardens."
