Cookies in the Afternoon in Red Wing

The Candlelight Inn in Red Wing, MN, was built in 1877, by Horace Rich, the Manager of the Red Wing Stoneware Company, as his private residence. As you enter, you'll notice the exquisite original stained glass windows and exquisite woodwork in the front hall and staircase — skillfully crafted by European immigrants from local Butternut trees. Original Quesal light fixtures, gleaming hardwood floors, and antique period furnishings create a feeling of warmth and harmony throughout the home. Over the years subsequent owners have lovingly maintained the home. Then, in 1989, The Candlelight Bed and Breakfast Inn was established. Current owners Lynette and Zig Gudrais continue the tradition of preserving this lovely Victorian residence much as it was more than 100 years ago. The authentic Italianate-style home reflects the gentility and charm of the Victorian era but has been updated with modern conveniences. Lovely Victorian furnishings and a feather-painted faux marble fireplace, an original of the times, make the Parlor room a joy to behold. Transport yourself back to the 19th century and imagine entertaining callers in this fine room. The Library features exquisitely crafted cherry cabinetry, an original fireplace and antique leather furniture. Select from its collection of books and current periodicals and enjoy the quiet warmth and comfort of this special room. Return to the elegance of the past with breakfast in the formal dining room. An original chandelier, fine table linens, silver, china and crystal make breakfast a special occasion. Enjoy the lovely piano music played by your host as you savor your gourmet meal. You'll love sitting on the front porch watching the world go by. It's the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of lemonade and homemade cookies in the late afternoon.
The recipes used in the cookbook are Minnesota Wild Rice Quiche, Candlelight Inn Potato Breakfast, White Chocolate Scones, and Caramelized Pineapple all used by permission of Lynette and Zig Gudrais.
