The Cliffside Inn in Newport, Rhode Island

Come discover why we've been named one of the "Great Tea Rooms of America" and Frommer's only 3-star (highest rating) luxury Inn in Newport.
The celebrated Cliffside Inn, home of former legendary Newport, Rhode Island artist Beatrice Turner, has earned a worldwide reputation as one of America's favorite luxury Inns. Seamlessly blending today's most luxurious amenities--whirlpools, fireplaces, steam baths--with antiques and Victorian elegance, Cliffside is a one-of-a-kind place, in a unique setting near Newport's acclaimed Cliffwalk, beaches and mansions.
Cliffside was built in 1876 as the summer home of railroad tycoon and Maryland governor, Thomas W. Swann. It was later owned by noted painter Beatrice Turner, whose fascinating and provocative life story was told in 1950 by LIFE magazine, and was more recently featured by ABC-TV when "Good Morning America" visited the Inn. Throughout the Inn you will find more than 100 copies or original Beatrice Turner paintings.

Our guest accommodations offer a relaxed but elegant blend of fine period antiques, luxury fabrics and thoughtful designer detailing. Most guest rooms and suites contain both fireplaces and whirlpool baths. Each day we also provide a complimentary wake-up beverage room service, with choice of newspaper, full breakfast and complete, Victorian afternoon tea service.
