The Hanover House in Martha’s Vineyard

The Hanover House in Vineyard Haven

(Martha's Vineyard)

The Island of Martha's Vineyard is a place like no other. Where dramatic cliffs meet endless sandy beaches. Where hundred year old stone fences trace rolling green meadows out to sea. It's a mystical, romantic place. From which whaling vessels were launched. And to which sea captains came home. Today, it's a place that remains unhurried and unspoiled. That's why it holds a special place in the hearts of so many. Feel the magic of Martha's Vineyard begin as you leave the mainland and board the ferry at Woods Hole. After a short, relaxing voyage, you'll arrive in the harbor of Vineyard Haven, a true islander's town: quaint and un-crowded, with many unique shops and restaurants. The Hanover House provides our guests with the charm of a country home and the convenience of a village inn. The home was originally built in the late 19th century, and was converted to an Inn over 20 years ago. Combined with its sister property next door, the Clark House, provides 20 rooms for gatherings of family, friends, and associates. The grounds provide a secluded feeling, even though the Inn is just a short walk from town. Before the day begins, enjoy our expanded continental breakfast sitting on our porch, at one of the outdoor garden tables, or one of the decks shared by the guests. When you are done, take advantage of the Hanover House's location to enjoy all the Island's activities in Vineyard Haven, and the other Island Towns: tours, biking paths, shopping, theater, restaurants, library, historical sites and museums, sailing, windsurfing, swimming, fishing, tennis, golf and horseback riding facilities. Set on a half-acre of beautifully landscaped lawn within walking distance of the ferry, this charming inn offers spotlessly clean rooms decorated in casual country style with a combination of antiques and reproduction furniture. Each room has an individual decorative flair, some with floral wallpaper and quilts, others tastefully sponge-painted and filled with whimsical, creative furnishings. All have a queen or two double beds, and some have private entrances that open onto one of two spacious sundecks. Three suites in the separate carriage house are roomy, with private decks or patios. Two have kitchenettes. The owners attend to every detail, including touches like Hemingway paperbacks on night tables. Homemade breads and muffins are served each morning on a lovely sun porch with fresh flowers from the ever-blooming gardens."

A Great Reason to Visit Massachusetts!

A Beach House Oceanfront B&B in Plymouth

Plymouth's only Oceanfront Bed & Breakfast. A charming beach house located at the tip of Center Hill Point on Cape Cod Bay! While summer is spectacular, it's not the only time to enjoy the Beach House. In the spring there are flowering trees and Cape Cod gardens. In Autumn there are the October beach walks, holiday shopping, foliage tours, and Thanksgiving Celebration (where it all began). In the winter there is the historic Christmas in Plymouth. Guests often tell us that they had no idea how close everything is in this part of the world. They say, if they had known, they would have extended their stay at the Beach House, where rates are much lower than Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Boston and Newport, and day tripped from here, while still enjoying the ocean view and delicious breakfasts on the deck. Things to do while visiting: tour historic Plymouth; explore quaint Cape Cod villages; discover the Magic of Boston; experience Newport, Rhode Island Mansions; yachting; swim, sun, stroll on beautiful beaches; hunt for bargains at designer outlets; watch whales; take the ferry to Provincetown; ride the Plymouth Duck Tours; listen to folk music at the waterfront; or haunt local galleries for talented area artists. The innkeepers, Denise and Jack Kedian raised their two daughters here. Over the years, they made improvements to the property--four sets of sliders off the living/dining area opening on to a wide deck overlooking Cape Cod Bay; a huge Palladian window above the large picture window in the master suite on the top floor; a spacious screened-in porch off the living room. The open floor plan on the main level takes full advantage of the bay views which can be enjoyed from virtually every living space, from the kitchen and dining areas to the living room. But it was only when her two daughters moved on with their own lives that Denise seriously contemplated opening her home to others.

"The layout is a natural for a Bed & Breakfast," says Denise of the three-story house. "Each level has its own entrance and each room its own bath, so everyone can have privacy." Denise enjoys sharing her home with visitors. "The key to success is", she says, "you've got to take your area of interest and make a sanctuary, your special place, and then be willing to invite others to share it with you." "For example, we wouldn't be comfortable in a town environment or with Victorian furnishings" she says. "My husband and I like the beach, so we choose to share that kind of casual life-style with our guests. If you do that, if you share your own interests, you create a more genuine, warmer experience for your guests." The interior of The Beach House is casually elegant. It's the kind of interior you wouldn't be surprised to see featured in, if not Architectural Digest, then certainly Better Homes and Gardens. Innkeeper is Denise's fourth career, first teaching, then journalist, and finally a publications/public relations professional. Though she clearly enjoyed the others, innkeeping is a natural fit for her.

Trinity Hills Farm BnB Inn/Spa Retreat in Paducah, Kentucky

Trinity Hills Farm BnB Inn / Spa Retreat in Paducah

"For Lady Ann and I, the purpose of Trinity Hills Farm's existence from the beginning has been to enrich the lives of our guests in whatever way we can. From witnessing a child catch his or her first fish, treating a couple from South America to their first "Hot Dog Roast", being FAMILY to long-term guests, pampering Newlyweds on their Wedding Day and most of all, influencing married couples by creating a romantic stage where they can re-discover their love for each other, re-kindle the flame and spend precious time wrapped in each others arms. Amore'!
A few weeks ago, a dear friend asked us a very important question. He said, "You are in actuality a Ministry, in every aspect of the word. Why are you not a Legal Non-profit Ministry?" We had no answer except that we were not aware that we could qualify. After a lengthy discussion and a lot of prayer, we determined that this is the direction we need to go. Our friend has promised to be our mentor and guide us through the legal processes to become Trinity Hills Farm Christian Ministries, operating as Trinity Hills Farm B&B Country Inn, Marriage Enrichment Retreat & Ministers Retreat. We are excited, because this has been our goal from the beginning. We have always wanted Trinity Hills Farm to be a place of honor and service to our Heavenly Father. This will enable the Ministry to continue indefinitely, long after we are gone. Praise God and please pray for us as we enter this transition. Ask God to bless us as we turn everything over to Him. Groups are welcome for Marriage Enrichment Retreats. We will soon have Retreat Guides available for you and we can serve group Luncheons and Dinners so once you are here, you don't have to leave and waste time driving back and forth. Menus are flexible. Pastors and Ministers Retreats are becoming much more frequent at Trinity Hills Farm. No phone interruptions, a quiet Spirit-filled atmosphere and pampered service allow Minister Teams to focus on the direction God has planned for them and their Churches. And new to us is Jessica Stanley, our live-in Associate Innkeeper. Jessica came to Trinity Hills in June, 2002, through a series of God-Sized events and continues to be a wonderful blessing to our guests. As Associate Innkeeper, her duties are endless, just as ours are, but her love to serve people is an unquenchable fire, fueled by the Holy Spirit that lives in her. We are proud, as a team, to serve you to the best of our ability. Come and meet Jessica. You will not be sorry. Pray for us as we continue to try to serve God by serving YOU."

'One-hundred-thousand Irish Blessings
On You and Yours!
May the road rise up to meet you,
And the wind be always at your back.'

Prairie Manor in Goshen, Indiana

Prairie Manor in Goshen

Come enjoy the country and our English country manor style home. Situated on twelve acres of grass, shade trees, flowers, meadowland and woods, Prairie Manor was built in 1925, by Fred and Grace Nymeyer who grew up in Goshen. When Fred went away to college his roommate became ill and had to drop out. Fred helped care for his roommate and at graduation he received a gift from his roommate’s father--a seat on the Wall Street Stock Exchange. Fred and Grace moved to NYC where Fred became a Wall Street banker. They came back to Goshen often to visit family and finally decided to move back to retire. Julius Gregory, a NYC architect, designed Prairie Manor. He was known as one of the first transitional architects, mixing architectural styles. The living room replicates the builder's favorite painting at the Metropolitan Museum of Art--an English baronial hall featuring a fireplace big enough to walk into. Mrs. Nymeyer’s favorite painting of a chapel inspired the twenty foot high Bombe window. The house has a third floor that at one time was called the ballroom. This is where the Nymeyer’s many guests did their dancing. It’s now “Grandma’s Attic” where you might find a treasure! Goshen is located in the center of Northern Indiana Amish Country. Middlebury is nearby with Das Dutchman Essenhaus featuring Amish cooking and craft and gift shops. Here you will find Amish Acres, an historic 80 acre farm where you can experience the Amish lifestyle. Theatre productions are presented in the Round Barn Theatre. Notre Dame University is just 50 minutes away in South Bend. While in Goshen visit the Old Bag Factory…a wide variety of shops housed in a restored 1890 factory.

Juliette grew up in a country hotel in Bath, England, and John is from Killingworth, Connecticut. They met on an Oceanic Society cruise in San Francisco Bay when Juliette was writing a Professional Singles Magazine and John was a "suit" in the Financial District! They just celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary this year. After 34 years in the USA Juliette has now become an American citizen. This is their fourth Bed & Breakfast; the first one was in Port Townsend, Washington, the second in Petersburg, Virginia, and the third in Camden, South Carolina. The suites are set to the Shakespearian theme from his plays. Come and guess which kind of homemade jam Juliette is serving for breakfast, or just come to relax in their beautiful landscaped garden in the swinging bench. Staunton is a jewel of a town which you can enjoy wandering around, nestled in the Shenandoah, 15 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway: truly a world away from the rush and stress of big cities! While there visit the Woodrow Wilson Birthplace and Museum. One of the few original Presidential birthplaces open to the public, Woodrow Wilson's first home offers an authentic picture of family life in the pre-Civil War Shenandoah Valley. See his wonderful old car and many other mementoes of his presidency, just one block from the inn. On the edge of town is The Frontier Culture Museum, a unique museum which offers 17th, 18th and 19th century European and American history, featuring appropriate furnishings, crops, animals, foods, and a knowledgeable staff of costumed interpreters that help create a living illustration of life in Europe before immigration to America and the culture they built on one of America's first frontiers. Also visit its interesting old farmhouses brought over from England, Ireland and Germany showing life on the farm in the 1600 and 1700's, as well as an American farm, circa 1850. In the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, Staunton - the Queen City on the Great Wagon Road between the Blue Ridge and the Alleghenies - offers old fashioned Americana at its best. Guided or self-guided walking tours through five National Historic Districts will transport you through Staunton's rich 250-year heritage.  Don’t miss the new Shakespeare theatre - Blackfriars.

“8 Germans, 1 Bed” in Piney Creek Inn BnB in Story, WY

Piney Creek Inn BnB in Story

“8 Germans, 1 Bed”
In the early, and somewhat naive, days of Piney Creek Inn’s existence, 2 couples and their 4 teenagers from Germany walked onto the deck late one summer afternoon. They were traveling and seeing Wyoming, but had not made any firm vacation plans; they were just “taking it as it comes”. One of the fathers spoke broken, halting English; the others knew some English words, but not enough to converse. He asked about lodging; I told him I only had one room with a queen bed and would not be able to host them. Between what words he could understand, sign language and hand movements, I told them I would try to help them find another place to stay.
I proceeded to call other lodging establishments to inquire about vacancies. I was able to find lodging further down the road and informed him of the place and how to get there. They had a very animated discussion, in German, so I wasn’t able to understand what they were talking about. He said they wanted to stay with us; again I told him that was not possible. They talked some more and he again said they wanted to stay here. Not knowing exactly what to say, I jokingly said the only way that would be possible if is we pitched a tent or they slept on the floor. He said that would be fine. Needless to say, I was speechless at this turn of events, but since I’d made the “offer” and they accepted, I followed through as best I could. One couple slept in the room I had available, the kids slept in our tent, and I made up an airbed on the floor of my sewing room for the other couple. They seemed perfectly happy and enjoyed a hearty breakfast the next morning. I called ahead to their next evening stop and arranged accommodations for them so they wouldn’t run into the same situation as they had with me. As they were preparing to leave, the mother of the couple who had slept on the floor, was sitting on one of the kitchen chairs putting on her sneakers. I managed to ask her how they had decided who got the bed and ended up on the floor. She smiled, and after thinking a few moments, she said “heads or tails”!
