The Swag Country Inn in Waynesville:
Andrew
Harper describes the inn as: "A peaceful, relaxing high-country sanctuary
secluded on a breathtaking 5,000 foot ridge overlooking the Smoky Mountains."
Nestled atop a 5,000 foot mountain, The Swag Country Inn boasts a mile frontage
on the Great Smoky
Mountains National Park.
Over the years, many of our guests have created touching writings, music,
and art while staying at The Swag. We often offer writing and craft making
workshops as part of our complementary series of special events. Past craft and
art workshop leaders include: artist George Shackleford, rustic furniture
craftsman Daniel Mack, and quilter Laurel Horton. The Swag also hosts
workshops, readings, and informal after dinner talks given by: novelist
Madeline L'Engle, Jack Gibbons (Science Advisor to President Clinton), and
regional author Wilma Dykeman. The award-winning Swag Country Inn is a paradise for
nature lovers who seek the finest amenities in a romantic and natural setting.
We're a high country retreat nestled on 250 acres with a private entrance into Great
Smoky Mountains National
Park. Our sixteen exquisite guest
rooms boast beautiful handcrafted interiors with features such as balconies,
fireplaces, steam showers and feathered beds. We also offer tantalizing
breakfasts, gourmet picnic lunches, and four-course dinners prepared by our
expert chefs. The Swag is the perfect place for a honeymoon, romantic getaway,
or just to enjoy the quiet majesty of the Smoky Mountains!
The beautiful ridge shown in the photo above has always been called "the
swag" by the folks who live here. The phrase refers to a dip on the ridge.
Think of swag draperies, swag lamps, or a sway-back horse, and you'll see in
your mind's eye the gentle curve of our landscape.
